With summer now in full swing, schools finished and vacation time is on its way we’re all itching to get outside and see the great outdoors. Here are a few simpler hikes to stretch out those legs before you start reaching for those really big summits.
An absolute local favourite that if you haven’t been to, you should! The hike itself is very minimal and usually quite busy especially on weekends and sunny days. Go see these amazing falls that propel water that eventually winds into Calgary. This is where it all starts folks!
If you are looking to reach a summit and get some views, look no further than Prarie Mountain. Located just outside of Bragg Creek this trail head is easy to get to and the hike itself doesn’t take very long. On a good clear day, you can actually see Calgary from the top of the mountain! Also, a great hike to catch the sunrise at, just bring your headlamps!
Go discover a plethora of waterfalls and cool cliffs as you follow this canyon up to the famed Ink Pots. Hand rails abound making this hike great for young kids, the elderly or people recovering from injuries. Located just outside of Banff, this makes for a great day trip if you’re visiting Banff or Canmore.
Located in Canmore, this is a good training hike as it has a slight, constant elevation gain with amazing views. At the beginning of the hike you can even find some ancient pictographs near the waterfalls! Bring your favourite furry friend and tackle this hike which is only about 4 km long.
